Update: Yet another lame ass update.

Greetings.

Just a quick note to let you all know I am still among the living and haven't forgot about you my dear readers.

Right now here behind the screen I am working on the next serious post in which I will discuss the structure of the Permatic Imperium.

Right now I am working on the idea of a Constitutional Monarchy, with the Emperor on the top of the system, followed by the Moot and a Senate, followed by the various Ministries and such. I am hoping to have this fleshed out and ready to post sometime this coming week.

Otherwise, still setting up the new/old (it's second hand) desktop machine, which is making me redo the whole apartment. Still have a bit of work to do on the Herald Supplement.

Hope you are doing well and I will catch you on the flipside.

Laterness,
Craig.

  1. I'll be very interested to see what you do with the nobility.

The latest iteration of Traveller nobility, as described in Mongoose Spinward March is, I feel, the most disappointing yet with nobles reduced to some sort of appointed assemblyman.

It seems that each retelling of the Traveller story has got more confused about the actual role of the nobility and I'm not sure if this due to a lack of understanding of what nobles actually do on the part of the writers, or a reluctance on the part of the writers to imagine other forms of government

    1. Ah, finally a subject to lure out some comments. :D

I will try not to disappoint you. As for what the nobility do, I have been doing a bit of research. Part one was dating an British woman back in the day and of course watching the cool PBS show, Monarchy: The Royal Family at Work, so I have some idea for a Yank.

So while I have in a commenting mood, what the hell else would you like to see detailed? I mean someday I would like use this as the basis of a real live Traveler5 Setting Book and it would be nice to hear what people would like to see in it. So, what else grabs your fancy. (So resisting the urge to do Tucker's, ah hell with. Bow Chicka Bow Wow! :D Yep, much like Tucker I am just that easy.)

And thanks again for your interest, it makes all the more worth it to know that there are folks not only reading it, but genuinely interested in my ramblings.

      Laterness,
      Craig.

    2. Hi Craig,

My frustration with Traveller Nobility is that the source material (Dumarest, Mote in God's Eye) has a functional nobility that serves, leads and rules. The writers of Traveller (or the later ones, anyway) seem to have become increasingly leery of the nobility having any political role outside of Subsector Dukes, Archdukes and the Emperor. This is in spite of maintaining the "fluff" that the nobility is "powerful" and "influential".

So if Count Bob is Count of Peripratzal, why can he not actually be head of state for Peripratzal? So the planet is a Rep Democracy or a Feudal Technocracy, and the government does the day-to-day running of the planet; the Count sets the government policy agenda, and heads the government. As a noble, Count Bob has a personal or family holding, possibly on-world, but the planet is his fief which he holds from the Subsector Duke.

Anyway, I would like to see what your thinking is on the subject.

I like where you were going with the Imperial Army, and its bases - have you thought further about how military bases, both Army and Navy/Marines might be sited/supported?

      Regards

      David
